The Mens Circle Turns 3

Wow ... this February will mark our 3rd 'birthday.'   Do you know, right from the beginning we've been blessed by the generosity of Ottawa Folkfest / the OFC / now Bluesfest ... as they allow us to borrow 15 Djembe drums for our monthly circle -- so drumming has always been a small but vital part of the experience.

And as we begin our Fourth year we're excited to continue to offer a sacred container for men of all stripes to gather for spiritual growth and fellowship.

It's such a wonderful mix of guys from age 18 to 82.  You know, when I was involved in youth ministry, I always thought it would be wonderfully authentic if young adults (after graduating from youth group) could 'be with' and witness the faith journeys and seeking of older brothers, and vice versa.   One night, at our Males Circle, I was in a small group with 5 engineers ... all in a different decade of life (ages 22 through 72)... Wild.

This isn't to say, that it makes it easy to 'hold' a circle with so many guys at different stages of life and the inner journey.  But then we don't try to do too much teaching, nor direction at the circle - guys are free to share what they want, and know it will be received, respected and not responded to quickly with advice.  The teaching we do offer is more the tools and language to unpack our own stories.

In the past year or so, three men have made their Mens Rites of Passage (MROP) with various groups across the USA - all under the Illuman umbrella.

Coming up to kick off our 2015 Season we're going to talk a little about what an MROP is and hear from the brothers who have done one.  There are several coming up in 2015, and some designed especially for young adults.
And it's all related ... we're gonna talk about "Shadow Work," and how honesty is really the key to the spiritual path.

We're also continuing with our Young Adult Men Small Groups, which have been a great time so far.  You can check that out also ... the next one is Tuesday February 10th.  It's open to guys across the city; and there's a good mix of University age students and 'older' young adults (say 25-35).  Click on the young adult link for more info.

Well that's it for now,  let's trust that Grace is providing what we need for the journey to love, freedom, creativity and maturity.

In Mystery and Grace,
Dave
